WHY COVER UP

We are definitely in an era of makeup. For many, stepping out of their homes without a full makeup face on is a big no-no.

All around us; on social media, among our circle of friends and community; makeup has become the new craze.

For instance, on many social media platforms like instagram and tiktok, there always seems to be a new makeup line, new makeup techniques or products that everyone is talking about.

Although that’s all fun and games and many will have their good reasons for always using makeup; we can’t ignore its downsides.

Generally makeup when applied well does enhance your natural beauty, but did you know there are many reasons why you shouldn’t wear makeup?

I’m not here to shame or ban makeup applications. I personally love makeup and I was previously a professional makeup artist for 7 years and I still love makeup.

So I’m definitely not here to bash makeup lovers.

I’m here to educate and encourage you to embrace your natural beauty, dare to go bare and understand the side effects of using makeup often.

Here are some surprising reasons why you should dare to go bare and avoid wearing makeup as much as possible, especially if you have sensitive and acne-prone skin.

CAN WORSEN ACNE AND CAUSE ALLERGIC REACTIONS

Applying makeup turns to clog your pores, thereby creating more acne and worsening the already existing acne.

Many of the ingredients contained in makeup products are highly allergenic and contain many chemicals that shouldn’t be put on the skin.

For those who do not have sensitive skin and so assume they are an exception to this; there are long term side effects to using these chemical based products.

UNABLE TO SOLVE SKINCARE WOES

As earlier mentioned, wearing makeup clogs your pores and worsens your acne or other skincare issues. Technically you’re just covering up instead of fixing the problem. And that is no solution to your problem. Not wearing makeup gives your skin the chance to breathe, to be clog-free and to heal.

BOOST LOW SELF-ESTEEM

You’ll be surprised to discover that for many who wear makeup (especially very often) turn to have low confidence in their beauty and for those who don’t believe it affects their self confidence they eventually become too self conscious.

Sadly, they feel their natural look isn’t good enough; their facial flaws (be it acne, dark spots, hyperpigmentation, dark circle, etc) or just how they look natural even with a flawless face can’t be seen by others or the world as they feel their skin isn’t perfect enough.

Many believe wearing makeup will make them more accepting by themselves, it makes them more confident.

Unfortunately that isn’t true, real confidence is in accepting you in your natural state or look. Applying or using makeup is hiding; your confidence is in the makeup and not in yourself. How can that be described as being confident?

The point is accepting and embracing you for you, that’s confidence!

MANY PRODUCTS ARE FULL OF CHEMICALS

Have you ever taken time to read the ingredient list of the makeup products you use? You’ll either find a long list of chemical based ingredients, or unidentifiable ingredients.

Many chemical ingredients are not safer as compared to natural ingredients and do not support the long term health of our skin or our health as a whole; for example sulphates, parabens, dyes, chemical preservatives are all chemicals that could have long term negative effects on our health and wellness.

CONSUMES TOO MUCH TIME AND DOES NOT SAFE UP ON YOUR WALLET

I personally have experienced this, when I was so obsessed about makeup (mainly because I wanted to cover up my facial flaws). On a daily basis, I would waste so much time applying my makeup. I would often find myself at my favourite makeup store purchasing the new makeup products or restocking my makeup products.

This doesn’t apply to just me, there are many out there who spend so much time and money on makeup.

Imagine how much more productive you can be without wasting this much time and money.

Think about that for a moment!

Ultimately nothing beats natural beauty; it is for this reason that even professional makeup experts always try to achieve a natural makeup look for their celebrities and clients.

There is  no need to cover up; go bare, stick with your naturally looking no-makeup face because besides the benefits your skin experiences from no-makeup it’s important for your self confidence that you know you’re gorgeous naturally.

Ultimately, avoid wearing makeup as much as possible you can save it up for the special occasions (That’s not often)
